Who is Dr Keryn Johnson?

Founder and Chief Scientist

Biochemistry · Regenerative Medicine · Quantum Biology
Wellington, New Zealand

Dr Keryn Johnson is a New Zealand biochemist, inventor and deep-technology entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in scientific research, technology development and commercialisation.

He holds a PhD in Biochemistry, an MSc in Molecular Biology and a BSc with majors in Biochemistry and Plant & Microbial Sciences. His career has crossed protein chemistry, enzymology, molecular biology, biomaterials, wound healing, natural products, analytical science and emerging quantum-biology research.

Before founding Quantum Technologies Limited in 2019, Keryn spent 18 years working in New Zealand government research and development at Industrial Research Limited and Callaghan Innovation. During this period, he contributed to more than 100 industry-facing projects supporting over 50 companies across biotechnology, health, food, agriculture, apiculture and advanced materials.

A background in regenerative medicine

Keryn’s experience in regenerative technologies began well before OH BEE HAVE.

While working at Industrial Research Limited, he contributed to the early process development and functional characterisation of an ovine forestomach extracellular-matrix biomaterial. This research helped establish the scientific foundation for regenerative medical-device technology now associated with Aroa Biosurgery.

He is a co-author of the foundational peer-reviewed study describing this biomaterial and a co-inventor on patent families covering tissue scaffolds, angiogenic and wound-healing agents, and anti-inflammatory proteins and peptides.

This work gave Keryn practical experience in taking biological discoveries from laboratory investigation through characterisation, intellectual property, preclinical development and commercial application.

From Mānuka honey research to OH BEE HAVE

Keryn’s research later extended into Mānuka and kānuka honey, including the study of their proteins, phenolic compounds, methylglyoxal and bioactivity-related properties. He developed purification, analytical and bioassay methods for investigating bee-derived proteins and their potential applications.

This work ultimately led to the founding of Quantum Technologies Limited and the development of the OH BEE HAVE empowering healing™ platform.

Through OH BEE HAVE, Keryn is translating his experience in protein chemistry, regenerative biology and product development into carefully prepared Mānuka honey-derived formulations for skincare, everyday wellbeing, personal comfort and cognitive clarity.

He leads the scientific and commercial development of the platform—from research, formulation and intellectual property through to independent testing, small-batch manufacturing and international commercial partnerships.

Exploring the deeper biology of living systems

Alongside his applied biotechnology work, Keryn is the founder of the Quantum Biology Research Institute. His independent theoretical research explores how timing, energy and information may operate within biological systems.

His investigational research includes:

The He-BEC Isotropic Singularity model

SUSY inversion frameworks

Alternative quark-charge models

The aromatic ring as a proposed biological timing and information system

Biological signal and quantum-to-classical information models

These are developing theoretical research frameworks and are separate from the established biochemistry, formulation and quality work supporting OH BEE HAVE products.

The scientist behind the hive

Keryn’s work is guided by a simple question:

How can we translate the intelligence found in nature into practical technologies that support human wellbeing?

OH BEE HAVE represents the latest chapter in that journey—bringing together decades of scientific experience, the remarkable biology of the hive and a commitment to turning New Zealand research into products people can use in everyday life.
